The conflict in Darfur was another ongoing story that, unfortunately, has yet to find a resolution. This year saw a debate over whether the conflict was genocide and an attempt at peace, bolstered by highly organized lobbies in Western countries and the star power of Hollywood celebrities like George Clooney. Hope was quickly dashed by continued violence and Omar El Bashir‘s obstinate refusal to allow UN peacekeepers in Darfur.
