U.S. election: Europe reacts to the latest Democratic primaries

Geneva, Switzerland – Watching the European media watching the American media watching the drama of the unfolding U.S. presidential-election primary process becomes an inevitable part of the exercise when one pays attention to the coverage by the press in Europe of the whole, complex spectacle. To many or perhaps even most European news outlets, it sometimes seems that the American method of choosing a president really is more of a media-fueled show than it should be. That may be because, with their parliamentary systems of government, many European countries’ political organizations select their candidates at party conferences instead of through primaries or caucuses in which masses of so-called ordinary voters affiliated with those same parties take part.
