March 14, 2008 — ISTANBUL, Turkey – Turkey blocked access to YouTube yesterday in response to a video clip deemed insulting to the country’s founder.
The state-run Anatolia news agency said an Ankara court had ordered the ban at the request of a prosecutor who argued that the Internet clip dissed Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, who died seven decades ago.
Under Turkish law, it is a crime to insult Ataturk.
It was not clear how long the ban would last.
