March 23, 2008 — BAGHDAD – A roadside bomb killed three GIs north of Baghdad yesterday, pushing the US death toll in the five-year conflict to 3,996.

Two of the soldiers were killed in the blast and the third died of wounds, the military said.

In other violence six members of a US-backed Sunni group were killed after an American airstrike north of the capital, Iraqi authorities said yesterday.

Meanwhile, two members of the US coalition forces in Afghanistanwere killed yesterday when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb in Kandahar as they were conducting a security patrol. Their nationalities were not released.
