Is Australia on the way to becoming a republic?
In Australia’s parliamentary system of government, the prime minister is the head of government, and the governor-general is the head of state. Designated by the prime minister, the governor-general is appointed by the British monarch and is the personal representative in Australia, a former British colony, of Queen Elizabeth II.
