Unanimous Senate points the way toward ending private health insurance

 I totally agree with the U.S. Senate’s unanimous vote yesterday to prohibit insurers, among others, from discriminating against those with genetic predispositions to certain medical afflictions. (story)
But such a prohibition destroys the fundamental principle of insurance. Insurance is a shared-risk pool into which we all pay amounts that are commensurate to the statistical probability that unforeseen circumstances will cause us to withdraw funds.
