AFTERSHOCK ROCKS CHINA
AP
May 26, 2008 — CHENGDU, China – A massive aftershock killed six people, injured more than 500, and destroyed 71,000 homes in Central China yesterday.
The tremor strained already maxed-out recovery efforts following the nation’s worst earthquake in three decades.
Soldiers, meanwhile, rushed to unblock a debris-clogged river threatening to flood survivors.
The fresh devastation was caused by a magnitude-6.0 aftershock, among the most powerful recorded since the initial 7.9 quake on May 12.
