Norman G. Finkelstein is a Jewish-American researcher, author and former Depaul University (Chicago) professor whose most recently published book, Beyond Chutzpah: On the Misuse of Anti-Semitism and the Abuse of History (University of California Press, 2005), “argues that Israel uses the outcry over perceived anti-Semitism as a weapon to stifle criticism” of its policies. He is known for “his anti-Zionist opinions and fierce public criticism of Israel around the world.” (Jerusalem Post) Israel’s Arutz Sheva notes that, in that book, Finkelstein, the “son of Holocaust survivors[,]…reviews what he calls Israel’s ‘exploitation’ of the Nazi genocide of Jews during World War II.” The news outlet also points out that he was born in New York in 1953 and that “he dedicated his first book to his parents, [who] survived the Warsaw Ghetto and the Maidanek and Auschwitz concentration camps, with the self-admonition: ‘May I never forget or forgive what was done to them.’”
