‘FREEDOM’ LEASE

By TOM TOPOUSIS

June 3, 2008 —

The Freedom Tower has its first private tenant – a Chinese development company that plans to take five floors as a base for its China Center, officials said yesterday.

Beijing Vantone Real Estate signed a letter of intent with the Port Authority to lease 190,000 square feet, a preliminary step before the agency’s board votes later this month to complete the 22-year deal.

Vantone would be the first private tenant for the tower where federal and state agency tenants have committed to lease about 1 million square feet of space.
