Why does Bush keep supporting Pakistan’s dictator-president Musharraf?

Meanwhile, back in Pakistan, where the Bush gang has consistently backed the democracy-crushing dictatorship of President Pervez Musharraf, who reluctantly stepped down as the head of that country’s army only late last November after having held both head-of-state and head-of-the-military jobs at the same time, democracy is still trying to get back on its feet. Parliamentary elections there in February brought to power a governing coalition of parties that had opposed the strongman’s rule. The Bush gang has showered billions of dollars on Musharraf’s regime, ostensibly to buy its help in its aimless “war on terror.” To date, however, U.S. taxpayers have not received much for their investment. Western Pakistan remains a stronghold of and training ground for radical-Muslim fundamentalists with suspected links to terrorism. (See the New York Times and the Council on Foreign Relations)
