Ireland rejects E.U. reform treaty: Victory or big mistake?

In early 2005, anticipation of the approval by European Union member countries of a proposed, organization-wide constitution had swelled; in May of that year, however, French voters rejected the proposed charter, and in June, voters in Holland rejected it, too. Even though nine E.U. member states already had ratified the proposed constitution, the results of the Dutch referendum effectively killed it in its tracks.
