Zimbabwe’s dictator, Mugabe: All set to “win,” without any opposition

It looks as though the dictator Robert Mugabe just might “win” – and, if so, as though Zimbabwe, Africa and democracy itself may lose in the run-off presidential election that is expected to take place in his country this coming Friday. Neither the long-ruling Mugabe, who leads the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF), nor his rival, Morgan Tsvangirai of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), won a clear majority in Zimbabwe’s presidential election on March 29, an outcome that prompted the forthcoming second round of voting to determine who will become Zimbabwe’s next president.
