Second ‘Mad Men’ to reflect election mood

The upcoming second season of Mad Men should reflect the mood of the US presidential election race, its creator Matthew Weiner has said.

Although set in 1960, Weiner said the feel of the first run was “very much” affected by the social and political climate in the US last year.

“WeÂ’ll see how the election goes, what the mood is right now. IÂ’m sure that youÂ’ll see a lot of overlap,” he said, adding that the new episodes, which will begin in the US on July 27, will technically be set in 1962.

Star Jon Hamm, who plays advertising executive Don Draper, confirmed the scripts were provided on the fly. “You donÂ’t know if youÂ’re going to be fired in two weeks, so you play it,” he said. “YouÂ’re forced to play what you know, whatÂ’s in front of you.”
