Madigan’s crackdown on Meth Coffee — is this the act of the attorney general or the nanny general?

Current World News

In a letter sent earlier this week to Doll God, LLC, Attorney General Madigan demanded that the (San Francisco-based) company immediately cease all marketing and sales of Meth Coffee in the State of Illinois, citing the devastating impact that methamphetamine has had in communities in Illinois.

The product is advertised as an illicit drug, with claims that it has been roasted by a “master druggist” and its Web site is littered with images of syringes and addicts. The product’s packaging includes a claim that consumers “can actually chew them whole, snort the powder dry, cook it in a lighter and huff … or just forget the caboose and mainline.”

Attorney General Madigan said the product violates the Illinois Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, 410 ILCS 620/15, 17, and the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act, 815 ILCS 505/2, due to the product’s comparison to illicit drugs.

In her letter, the Attorney General informed Doll God, LLC, that if the company refuses discontinue marketing and sales of the product in Illinois, her office will seek injunctive relief and civil penalties available under Illinois law.

This letter is the latest effort in Attorney General Madigan’s work to ban the sale of illicit products that promote drug culture. Her office has helped to prevent the sale of the energy drink “Cocaine,” an energy drink powder called “Blow” and “Pot-suckers” lollipops.
