Darnell voiced his fears on being forever single to Mikey as they were supposed to be practising their song this evening. “I just don’t like being alone, period,” he stated in the luxury bedroom. Darnell went on to say that the only reason he had threatened to leave was to escape any public display of hatred towards him from the crowd.
Darnell and Michael took to their roles as Elton John and Kiki Dee with gusto. While the group sat on the chairs for the performance, Michael sat on Darnell’s knee. As they got up to sing, Darnell called Michael “babycakes” and warned him to be careful. Meanwhile, Michael spoke in a very high voice. The pair’s acting came to a climax as they kissed during their song.
Sara snapped at Mohamed when he asked her to hurry up as she was changing out of her task costume. Big Brother had repeatedly asked Mohamed to make sure everyone had returned their microphone batteries, but when he pleaded “Sara?” she retorted: “I’m just doing it!” He told her not to have a go at him, adding: “Big Brother’s putting pressure on me.” However, she just replied: “I’m doing it as fast as I can.” Mohamed joked: “No beers for you tonight, then.”
Some of the housemates wondered if there would be a gambling task to decide the nominees or the evictees. Sara didn’t think that would happen, pointing out that it was important for the public to have their say. “They don’t have to have a choice in everything,” Darnell noted, but Sara replied that when it was so close to the final it was “crunch time”.
The group debated whether the lineup for the cops and robbers task had been on the Tuesday or Wednesday. Darnell said he believed it was Wednesday as he had stayed up all night on the Tuesday with Rex. He admitted he remembered as Sara had congratulated Rex on staying up but not him and laughed that he was paranoid. “I’d never want to purposely make someone feel bad,” Sara told him. “Usually I would think: ‘What the hell?’ but actually I know you would have thought that.”
Sara, Kathreya and Rachel agreed they were having trouble sleeping. Kathreya said she believed their bodies had adapted to staying up late and that was why they were having problems. Meanwhile, Rachel told them that she had changed into tight pyjama bottoms as the loose ones she wore last night irritated her. “Hopefully that will help,” she smiled. “Yeah, probably not,” Sara laughed.
Kathreya and Rachel shared their love of supermarkets. Rachel revealed that if the grapes weren’t good in one shop she’d go to one across the road, and if they weren’t good there either she’d drive ten miles to the next one. Meanwhile, Kathreya said she was taken in by bargains and had once bought 70 bottles of Diet Coke as they were on special offer.
Rex told a surprised Sara that Nicole had suggested there were bad stories about him in the press. He added that he surrounded himself with people in the media and knew so many that it was easy for someone he didn’t know very well to sell their story. Sara asked how much money you could get for doing it and Rex thought it was about £1000, depending on how much evidence there was.
Rex laughed that he had “respect” for the cameramen as he would just fall asleep. Darnell agreed, describing the job as like being on Big Brother without getting any of the rewards. However, Rex said that they were getting slack as the final was close and were being more careless about remaining hidden. “I heard one guy having a full-blown conversation on his phone,” he claimed.
Darnell told Kathreya that he sometimes feels she “overshadows” him. He explained that when Sara got her letter from her sister he knew how she was feeling and what to say, but Kathreya got there first and he didn’t get a chance to talk to Sara. “You’re so good it’s unreal,” he sighed, joking that if his own mother came through the door Kathreya would be there so fast she’d think it was her relative. “That’s why we love you so much,” Rachel reassured Kathreya. “You’re a friendly person.” Darnell described her as “exceptional”.
