Around the world, people are still talking about how costly, spectacular, well-organized, heavily guarded, ubiquitously promoted, corporate-funded, manipulated-for-public-relations-value and free of political dissent the recently closed Beijing Olympic Games turned out to be. Among the remarks that are routinely surfacing in the post-Olympics chatter are observations like “China has really shown the world that it is an emerging superpower” and questions like “How will London ever be able to top this in 2012?”
