Bush announces $1 billion aid package for Georgia

President Bush plans to send $1 billion in new economic aid to Georgia to help it rebuild after Russia’s invasion.
In a statement obtained by The Associated Press, Bush says the pro-Western former Soviet republic “has a strong economic foundation and leaders with an impressive record of reform.” The additional assistance, he says, “will help the people of Georgia recover from the assault on their country.”
