Michel Danet: occupied territories used as criminal transit

“Occupied and uncontrolled part of Azerbaijani territories causes great problems for the international community”, Secretary General of the World Customs Organization Michel Danet said in Baku
Michel Danet confirmed that those territories were used as a corridor in smuggling and illicit drug turnover.
“The occupied Azerbaijani territories, as well as Moldova’s Transdnestria are such uncontrolled zones. These territories are used for other purposes and this worries us”, he said.
He noted that last year Azerbaijani customs officers held a special operation to avert the attempts of exporting antique values to Russia.
Armenia’s occupation of a part of Azerbaijani lands promotes smuggle of illegal production via the uncontrolled lands, said head of the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan Aydin Aliyev.
“Drugs are smuggled via the uncontrolled lands of Azerbaijan. Moreover, cultural and historical values, including Karabakh carpets, which are also exported from the country, are terminated in the occupied lands”, he told reporters Tuesday.
“It is our duty to ensure protection of such valuables”, said Aliyev.
