Flu, stones and a windy chopper ride

It was one of those days when you wish you’d never opened your eyes let alone struggled out of bed and, in my case, hopped on a helicopter to a city south of Baghdad to watch a security handover ceremony.
Flu is a nasty bug at the best of times, but crammed into the back of a Blackhawk it brings on a new level of sniveling self-pity, not to mention exposing everyone else to my germs (sorry about that).
The problems, however, really began after we arrived in Kut, the provincial capital of Wasit, for the event (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/iraq/article5041097.ece).
Standing in an old sports stadium, I tried my best to focus on the military band, flag-waving girls and marching Iraqi soldiers.
