So Al-Jazeera has compiled a roundup of global movers and shakers sending a message to the next president of the United States, whether it be McCain or Obama. Most are the standard nudges toward greater cooperation, but a few stood out for me:

  • Bolivian President Evo Morales: “It’s not a question of whether it’s Obama or McCain… it’s a question of policies. • Bo Kyi, Burmese political prisoner: “My message to the next president is: Now, the United States imposes sanctions on the Burmese regime. Also, I want the next president to maintain that sanction.” Agreed!

  • Mullah Zaeff, former Taliban ambassador: “…[And my message is also] to stop war and to stop killing, capturing the people and searching the houses, and to stop the activities which [caused] the people of Afghanistan [to] become angry with them.” Those is glass houses shouldn’t chuck boulders. As if Afghans — especially women — weren’t angry with the “activities” conducted by the Taliban.
