Former Ill. Gov. James Thompson, chairman of the law firm that provided a pricey defense team for former Ill. Gov. George Ryan, issued a Thanksgiving Day news release that contests the central thesis of my column this morning – that Ryan has not apologized for his crimes and so shouldn’t even be considered for a presidential pardon or sentence commutation.
