Now it’s time to face the tribunal, and Duch, now 65, is one of five Khmer Rouge kingpins facing charges of crimes against humanity under the joint U.N.-Cambodian effort. In the years since the brutal reign of the Khmer Rouge, Duch became an evangelical pastor and worked for a Christian aid organization. Still, after this apparent conversion in the 1990s, he moved around to avoid discovery of his identity, but was eventually found by journalists.
