The cast of Slumdog Millionaire has just arrived on the Red Carpet, along with the British director Danny Boyle. Among them are Azharuddin Mohammed, 10, and Rubina Ali, 9, who were flown over from the Mumbai slum in which they live. Hard to comprehend what they must be thinking – or how they’ll feel when get flown back to India. They’re the stars of the show tonight, absolutely no doubt. Freida Pinto looks suitably incredible in a blue gown (the fashion designer Rudolph Duke on the ABC’s Fashion Skyway approves). After playing the love interest in Slumdog, it’ll be interesting to see if Pinto has a lasting career in Hollywood. She looks slightly overwhelmed right now. “This is a big blessing,” she says. “This is the happiest moment, ever. It’s great to have everyone here together, we’re one big Slumdog family.” And here comes Danny Boyle. “Overjoyed just to be here,” he says. ‘All the crowds, people shouting. It’s fantastic, we’re having an amazing time. Maybe [now] India and Hollywood can start making movies together.”
