US soldier, 60, oldest killed in Iraq

PHOENIX – A 60-year-old has become the oldest US Army soldier killed in combat in Iraq.
An Army spokesman confirmed that Major Steven Hutchison, from Scottsdale, Arizona, is the oldest member of that service branch to be killed in combat.
Hutchison died on Sunday after a homemade bomb went off near his vehicle in Al Farr, Iraq. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 34th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division at Ft. Riley, Kansas.
According to The Associated Press’ database of soldiers killed in Iraq, Hutchison is the oldest member of any branch killed in combat operations.
