Dazed? Confused? It’s an Auld Lang sign

The very moment when it comes time tonight to sing “Auld Lang Syne,” our most obscure, confusing holiday song, is also likely to be the moment when you are least likely to be in shape to puzzle it out.

Tired. Jostled. Overstimulated. Perhaps a few too many right gude-willie waughts under your belt.

“Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind?” you will warble. “Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and days of auld lang syne?”

What, first of all, is a “lang syne?” This is not an expression anyone uses anymore.
