Twenty Feared Dead In Rush Hour Train Smash

At least 20 people are feared dead after two trains collided head-on in snowy conditions on the outskirts of Brussels.

The accident happened just outside the station at Buizingen, nine miles southwest of the Belgian capital, at around 8.30am.
Reports said 20 people were killed but the train line operator was unable to confirm that figure.
“The most recent information we have is that 20 people died,” the mayor of Buizingen Dirk Pieters said on Belgian radio.
He said he had got the information from emergency services at the scene.
Kristien Berckmans, a Belgian railways spokeswoman, said earlier: “There was considerable damage and several people were injured.”
Buizingen is just nine miles from the Belgian capital Brussels
Somwe of the injured were taken to hospital while others were treated at a nearby sports complex.
The crash brought down overhead power cables, severely disrupting train services.
Among those hit was the high-speed line between Brussels and Paris.
