This morning on C-Span’s Washington Journal, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) justified the disturbing racist and homophobic epitaphs that angry (protesters) hurled yesterday at Rep. John Lewis (D-GA), Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA), and other House Democrats. Nunes insisted that everyone has a right to “smear” whoever they want and that the… behavior was understandable given the “crazy totalitarian tactics” that he alleges Democrats are engaged in.... “Totalitarian.” Really? It may not be fair to excerpt the nutty things that protesters say, the horrible things they put on their signs and the viscosity of the saliva they expel at their foes during overheated demonstrations, but when our elected officials begin representing the passage of a bill by majority votes in both houses of Congress as “totalitarian,” it’s time to point the finger (and perhaps offer a history lesson).
