Blagojevich verdict: Open thread
Current World News Comments (0)
I’m on vacation this week and my internet access is spotty, but I do want to open up the conversation for our regulars and special visitors here about the Blagojevich verdict today — guilty on 17 of 20 counts.
What in the coverage today struck you as notable? Did anything that Blagojevich, his supporters, the jurors, Patrick Fitzgerald or the commentators who aren’t on vacation said pique your interest?
The sentencing question looks like an interesting issue:
Blagojevich’s unorthodox strategy to repeatedly go public with his claims of innocence could come back to haunt him..Blagojevich’s decision to testify could hurt him at sentencing if the judge concludes the former governor lied under oath…Judge Zagel might also consider whether Blagojevich used his many appearances to attempt to taint both juries — an allegation the government leveled.
And the coincidence with news of of Lura Lynn Ryan’s deteriorating health is a reminder how loved ones also end up paying the price of crime.
